Developing Communication, Confidence & Expression
Our communication sessions support young adults, particularly those with additional communication needs, in developing ways to express themselves. Through engaging activities, they build confidence, independence, and social skills, participate more fully in daily life, and strengthen relationships. The tools and strategies learned are applied across other activities, helping young adults feel valued and achieve their full potential.
-
Communication sessions are incredibly valuable for our young adults, particularly for those with additional communication needs who may find it challenging to express themselves. These sessions provide a supportive and patient environment where they can explore different ways of communicating, including gestures, signs, pictures, symbols, communication boards, and assistive devices. Developing these skills helps them express their needs, make choices, and share their thoughts and feelings, which can greatly reduce frustration and anxiety while helping them feel heard, understood, and valued.
By supporting both verbal and alternative forms of communication, these sessions promote greater independence, enabling our young adults to participate more fully in daily activities, build relationships, and engage confidently within the centre and the wider community. Communication also underpins many other areas of learning, supporting literacy, numeracy, and everyday life skills. Within our day service, we use a variety of engaging approaches such as reading, role play, group discussions, question and answer sessions, games, and other fun activities to encourage speech, develop language, and promote social interaction. As confidence grows, we see improvements in speech, the use of sentences, and a greater willingness to communicate, leading to stronger friendships, teamwork, and increased participation across all areas of Vision25. The communication tools and strategies introduced in these sessions are also carried into other activities throughout the week, helping to reinforce these important skills and support our young adults in reaching their full potential.
We accomplish these key outcomes by assigning dedicated staff teams to guide and support each objective throughout the weekly sessions.

Communication sessions are vital for some of our young adults because they help develop the skills needed to express needs, make choices, and interact effectively with others. By supporting both verbal and alternative forms of communication, these sessions promote independence, enabling individuals to participate more fully in daily life, advocate for themselves, and navigate social and community settings. They also enhance social interaction, emotional wellbeing, and confidence by reducing frustration and helping individuals feel heard, valued, and understood. Furthermore, strong communication underpins learning in other areas, supporting literacy, numeracy, and practical life skills, and ultimately helping people with learning disabilities to thrive and reach their full potential.
In or day service we use reading, role play, group chats, Q & A sessions and lots of games and fun activities to help to improve speech and encourage more social interaction with others. The results are that there is an improvement in speech and use of sentences to express themselves and they are more confident, building good friendships, helping each other and engaging socially in all areas of Vision25. The communication tools used in these sessions are being extended throughout other activities during the week to strengthen these new skills even more.
Cooking Team
Teaching cooking to our young adults is an essential part of life skills education because it promotes independence, confidence, and practical competence in everyday life. Cooking helps them learn to follow instructions, measure ingredients, and plan meals, building problem-solving and organisational skills
-
It also encourages healthy eating habits and an understanding of nutrition, giving them the tools to make informed food choices. Beyond practical skills, cooking fosters creativity, teamwork, and social interaction, as they may work together or share meals with others. Importantly, it supports self-esteem and empowerment, as successfully preparing a meal provides a sense of accomplishment and shows that they can manage essential aspects of daily living independently.
Events Team
Parties and events are a wonderful way for everyone to connect, make friends, and enjoy being part of a community. Activities like discos, dancing, games, and themed celebrations give people a chance to express themselves, have fun, and celebrate achievements together.
-
These occasions also provide a valuable opportunity for parents and families to connect, share experiences, and feel part of the community. At the same time, they help build confidence, encourage teamwork, and create a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels included and valued. Beyond the fun, participating in parties and events helps develop everyday skills such as making choices, following instructions, and working with others. Overall, these events combine enjoyment with personal growth, helping people and their families feel supported, happy, and part of something special.
At Vision25 we hold three parties a year. Summer, Halloween where everyone gets dressed up for and also our Christmas party. At the parties we do rather a raffle with fabulous prizes to be won, or a blind card. Many of our prizes are donated by family and friends and the general public. We also hold tombola stalls throughout the year which the young adults enjoy helping with. All of this help to make a fantastic night out which is full of fun and loved by everyone who attends. Everyone is made to feel welcome and everyone leaves at the end of the night full of smiles and happy memories.
Fundraising Team
I believe having a dedicated fundraising team is essential for our charity because it helps ensure we have a steady, reliable source of funding to support our programs, while allowing the rest of us to focus on delivering the services that make a difference.
-
Our fundraising team also brings the community together through events and campaigns, strengthens relationships with supporters, and keeps our donors informed and valued. They explore new ideas, identify grant opportunities, and build partnerships that help us grow and expand our impact. For me, our fundraising team is at the heart of securing the resources and connections we need to continue making a meaningful difference every day.
